About Us

In 1919, a group of Milwaukee men of English and Scottish extraction, formed a Lawn Bowling Club and built a small green of two or three rinks on vacant lots known as Stickney Field in Wauwatosa, WI.  After two years, the land was sold for building purposes and play on Stickney Field ceased.

In 1920, devotees of the game organized the Milwaukee Lawn Bowling Association.  Through their efforts, a green of four rinks was constructed in Lake Park, Milwaukee.  Club membership until 1931 averaged about forty bowlers.  Over the period 1929 – 1932, the green was enlarged to regulation size, rebuilt with crushed stone foundation, tile drainage,  and sown with bent grass.  In 1937, a new green east of the first green was completed and club membership grew to seventy-five bowlers.

Today, the Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowls Association’s two greens are amongst the finest in the Midwest.  Current club membership consists of men and women bowlers from 18 to 92 years of age.

Members routinely compete in Lawn Bowling tournaments at the Division, National and International levels.  Many championship titles have been won and defended over the years.  Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowling Association members who represented the Central Division in the 2011 US National Lawn Bowling Championships are:  Charlene Harmon, Glorianne Mather, Anna Witt, Max Cavender, Steve Nelson, and Carl Landgren.
