Some of the finest lawn bowlers from around the nation have descended upon the Santa Anita Bowling Green Club this week for the men’s and women’s Southwest Division Open. The tournament is sanctioned by the United States Lawn Bowling Association. The event started on Saturday 4/28 and runs through Thursday 5/3. Players compete in singles, pairs and foursome brackets. Competing in the women’s tournament are Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowling Club bowlers Anna Witt (pictured) and Glorianne Mather, and competing in the men’s tournament are Bob Schneider and Steve Nelson. The Santa Anita Bowling Green Club is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.We had 16 entrants. The winning team was Jim Grzybowski (skip) and Jerry Mathwig (lead), defeating Crandall Hays (skip) and Min Waite (lead). After the winning team, each player was ranked according to wins and plus points. Crandall finished third, Min fourth, Brian Schieble fifth, and Carl Landgren sixth.
Monday Night Singles League, open to all club members, begins June 6. Men and Women will bowl together. This is the most competitive of the leagues and is a great opportunity to improve your game. Sign-up is required. Players are handicapped so that new players can compete with experienced players. Matches begin at 6:30 PM.
Tuesday Afternoon is open bowling at the Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowling Association. Men and women bowl together on pairs or triples teams. A reminder that Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowls Club membership fees for 2011 are due by April 15th. All club members are reminded to complete the form that you received in the mail in early March and indicate league participation interests.
