Learn to Lawn Bowl
Experience the charm of lawn bowling, an outdoor summer sport played from June to October on meticulously maintained grass greens in the picturesque setting of Lake Park. Hosted by the Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowling Association, our club welcomes women and men of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds to join the fun.
How Do You Play?
The goal is simple yet strategic: roll your bowls to land closest to a small white target ball, called the jack. But there’s a twist—lawn bowls aren’t perfectly round! Their slight bias creates a natural curve, adding an exciting challenge to every roll.
While lawn bowling may remind you of bocce or curling, it has its own unique flair. Unlike bocce, where balls are thrown, bowls are gently rolled with precision. And forget the ice and brooms of curling—this is all about grass, skill, and a relaxed summer vibe.

Curious about lawn bowling? We’d love to have you! Below are some ways you can get started
The Basics of the Game
The object of the game is to get your BOWLS as close as possible to the JACK. Simple!
The Resources for Bowlers is an excellent 50 page guide that introduces bowlers to the game. It provides basic information about the game, hints and clues on proper bowl handling and gives some basic tactical advice. Be sure to review this when you join a club or just to make certain you have all the basics covered.
The basic equipment and terminology is described on The Game. A more thorough explanation is found in the Introduction To Lawn Bowls brochure. The rules are detailed in the Laws of the Sport of Bowls.
